Who is she??
Marlee Matlin is an academy award winning actress, who happens to be deaf.
She was born August 24, 1965. It was discovered at the age of 18 months that due to a case of the measles she had become deaf. She quickly grew to have a talent for acting, starting at age 7 as Dorothy in Wizard of Oz for a children's theatre. At age 21 she was the youngest actress to win a "Best Actress" academy award for her role in Children of a Lesser God. She played in a small number of movies after that, and also played guest roles in a number of TV series. She tried her hand in producing but has settled on writing for now. She has published 3 books, including her autobiography. She is also a strong activist for many charities, especially those dealing with people who cannot hear.
